The blogger bandwagon – Google buys YouTube

Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) has agreed to acquire YouTube, the consumer media company where people watch and share original videos through a Web experience, for $1.65 billion in a stock-for-stock transaction. YouTube will operate independently to preserve its successful brand and passionate community.I feel like this is the only news today. Have you read the industry blogs? Everyone has posted about this and some (https://www.techmeme.com) have posted repeatedly. Apparently there is nothing else going on today and this is the only news that matters so, before my departure for Shop.org, I wanted to make sure you hadn’t overlooked it.

What’s the upside for marketers? Google already has an easy video solution for CPC or CPM based advertising, YouTube gives them the video audience to make online commercials mainstream.

No excuses now – Google launches Google Base Store Connector

e-commerce folks, I’ve hopefully sold you now on how to manage your feeds, extend their value, and optimize the content. You need to be on Google now.  If you haven’t heard yet, Froogle is being replaced by Google Base

If you don’t know yet, Google Base is free distribution of your Store’s catalog in essentially the same way as a Comparison Shopping Engine. It is where you need to test your feed.

So what’s the Story?

Google Base Store Connector is a free download that puts info about your store into the Google index so that people searching Google for products you have to sell are presented with your store. The Store Connector automatically reformats your feed to ensure it is optimized for Base and uploads the products.

No excuses now, go get Store Connector and get your store and products on Base.

How do you create an XML Sitemap?

Some argue that small websites should create their own; with the vast majority of tools available, automate and forget about it. In short, a Sitemap allows sites to maintain a list of all their pages for indexing. There are a number of available solutions for this with many listed for novices and experts at Google. You want to both post a sitemap with a link to it on your site’s footer and submit it to Google. After the file has been created upload it to your server, preferably at the root level. Setup an account with Google Sitemap, from here you can add a site to your account. Simply enter your domain where it says “Add Site” to allow you to then submit the XML sitemap

Google owns MySpace

This Monday, Google announced their deal to provide search and advertising for News Corp.’s MySpace and other sites. Under the agreement, Google will install its search boxes and keyword-driven ads on MySpace and other Fox Interactive sites giving Google a play in the social networking arena. Of course, many argue MySpace is falling to pieces due to bad press and the growth of Facebook; I’m anxious for more of these significant partnerships reminiscent of Yahoo/eBay.
