Starting a new business is a lot like dating. Indeed, the founders of Cospace went on a few dates; we had drinks, we explored our likes and dislikes, experimented with a few ideas, (I think I even got to second base once), and now it’s serious. Lucky for us, this was’t our first time around the block. We’ve all dated in the past, broke up a few times, and even experienced that most gut wrenching of moments when you have to say goodbye to a startup you love. Alas, this is the life of an entrepreneur. Dating is hard. REALLY hard. Founder Dating is harder.
For those who are truly committed or ready to commit to starting a company full-time or a very meaningful part-time project to work on, FounderDating isn’t about finding a job, it’s about finding your passion and finding your startup mate.
The Premier Online Network for Entrepreneurs to Connect With Cofounders
Founded by CEO of Formative Labs and former GM of Platforms at Bebo (Acquired by AOL),Jessica Alter, FounderDating was born out of “a cup of coffee and personal frustration.” Countless people want to become entrepreneurs but haven’t yet found the right co-founder(s)/team or idea to work on. FounderDating believes that the team and finding the right fit is of the utmost importance.
“We don’t want to see anyone walk away from entrepreneurship because they don’t have the right partner. So, we started FounderDating to help introduce smart, dedicated and inspired people, start making matches and lower the hurdles to company creation.”
FounderDating’s invite-only structure ensures members are of the highest caliber and ready to commit. FounderDating aims to bring together super talented entrepreneurs with different backgrounds and skill sets to start innovative new companies.
We have a FounderDating round open right now. Accepting applications until August 15th, Austin’s Managing Director Damon Clinkscales, will hold a kickoff event for those accepted into this round on August 29th. Damon is the founder of @austinonrails and a Web engineer atVitalSource, building an e-textbook platform.
Is it right for you? FounderDating is looking for entrepreneurs who are
- High Quality – members are carefully screened for quality and readiness (no recruiters, etc.) Applications and members’ identities are confidential, but a few of the folks who are part of the network are former founders or early employees from: stackmob, snapfish, Zynga, Loggly and Gilt just to name a few.
- Balanced – 50% engineering & 50% non-engineering
- Have No Idea – (wait, that’s not quite how I meant to say it…) FD is about the people, so you don’t need to have an idea, just be ready to work on a serious side project

It’s not romantic. FounderDating is an invite-only, online network for entrepreneurs to connect with cofounders and that team and the right fit is of the utmost importance.
I’m still looking for more information about this before I use my invitation and pay the 50 bucks to sign up. What is the business/marketing plan? Anybody know anything about how they plan to make money? LinkedIn’s services are expensive enough.
